Halloween Fancy Dress in the Horror Movies Genre and Beyond

All Hallow’s Eve is generally considered to be a dark and spiritual holiday for believers in witchcraft and evil forces. Though for many of us it is a time to thrown on a Halloween fancy dress  creation and scare our friends or neighbours whilst out trick or treating. With hit movies such as “The Exorcist”, “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Stephen King’s Carrie”, the cross-dressing sensation Tim Curry in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and more recent teenage favourites “Twilight”, “Harry Potter” and the evil Queen of Hearts, played expertly by Helena Bonham-Carter, in Tim Burton’s re-imagining of “Alice In Wonderland”. With so many iconic film characters, it is easy to gain influence from a huge range of genres, not only horror themed pictures.

The horror genre has provided us with some brilliant characters throughout the years and this is not limited to movies. Literature is generally the foundation from which a large volume of the big screen scarers originated. International best-seller Stephen King, for example, has given us incredible novels that include IT, the Tommyknockers, “The Dark Tower” series which is soon to be brought to life on the big screen by “Da Vinci Code” director Ron Howard, “The Stand” and the frightening “Shining” from which we get a great Halloween fancy dress outfit thanks to Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance. Another famous novelist whose creations became an iconic figure at the box office is Robert Harris. The “Silence of the Lambs” author allowed Dr. Hannibal Lector to descend on us with his face mask and straight-jacket.

Masks are a lot of fun and with the large array on offer, there is something for all tastes and occasions. Famous Halloween fancy dress can be found on metal group Slipknot, fronted by Corey Taylor. The grotesque head gear that the band wear are sure to coax a reaction from even those with the most twisted imaginations. In 2006, the blockbuster “V For Vendetta” has given us the Guy Fawkes mask that has become synonymous with the Anonymous organisation and in 1998 Antonio Banderas donned the iconic Zorro eye mask. Last, but certainly not least, the “Scream” mask has been adapted from the original Munch painting to the modern screen alternative that is available in various colours and even with fake blood running down the face!

The image conscience amongst us won’t be too keen on a mask as it could mess up the hair they have spent hours preparing for the Big Night Out. If that is the case, boo to you but we still have you covered! Medusa with her snake entangled barnet would be the fantasy female choice along with a sassy black dress. A slinky skeleton outfit makes for a stunning Halloween fancy dress costume for guys and girls. Ladies look very spooky for the season with a skeleton dress and boney tights. Slap on a dollop of neon or UV paint and you will scare your admiring public through the night.

The busy bodies always leave it to the last minute and being to panic unnecessarily when the big party is just days away. Never fear as the party shops and internet websites are well stocked, ensuring you don’t need to turn up as a ghost wrapped in your best bedsheets every year. The best selection of Halloween fancy dress costumes are found online so do your research before settling on a lame home-made effort.
